Thank you to everyone who sent virtual snowflake cookies! Aren't they pretty? :D

I finally managed to reply to everyone's comments regarding Athena. Only took me a week. *shifty eyes* She is settling in quite nice with our rag tag group. She and Teal'c play together all the time (he's very gentle with her) and Luna is warming up to her. Rilla will take much longer to thaw... if she ever does.

A reminder to scoot on over and fill out my poll HERE. I believe there is still time for me to get cards out to everyone!

I will be making a greater effort to stay connected with all of you. Don't like the drifting, out of touch feeling. There are emails I owe replies to, I promise that they are coming, and posts I haven't responded to - poke me if you think there's something I should see!

*hugs* to you all!

We have a new little body in the house! Her name is Athena! :D

She is a Heinz 57 and 9 weeks old. We brought her home on Tuesday and she is doing very well with the house training so far. Teal'c is starting to warm up to her and play. The cats, on the other hand, are not impressed! ;p

I have finally figured out how to access LJ from my BlackBerry! I had tried using the browser but the text was teeny. And when I zoomed in I had to scroll back and forth which got very confusing. I feel a little more connected now.

Had a lovely day gardening and enjoying the +15 temperature and clear, blue skies. Hard to believe that this time last year we had a foot of snow already. The next week is forecast to be fairly mild too. :D I can definitely live with that!

Monday we have an appointment to view a building which we learned could be for sale for the right offer. *fingers crossed* I'll know more Monday of course, but it looks like a good building so far.

Quick update -

1. A couple of news items have knocked me back a bit.  This past week has been all about self-distraction.

2. Had a look (or two) at a possible shop location.  Just have to crunch numbers now I guess!  And figure out how to write a business proposal.

3. Hallowe'en was good.  Cold, but good.  JA got the idea after 4 houses or so.  :) Here are a couple of pictures that my mom emailed me.  Not the greatest quality - please ignore the red eye.   I will try to remember to bring my camera to work next week to upload the ones I took.

Have a great weekend everyone.  :)

I've been wracking my brain all day to come up with something a little more creative than yesterday's entry. I am not on the cutting edge when it comes to literature. I read a mix of sci-fi/fantasy, romance, murder mystery and children's literature.

My web surfing is similarily run of the mill.  I think everyone already knows about Cake Wrecks, FailBlog, I Can Haz Cheezburger, and Stumble Upon...   Yes?

I do enjoy this puzzle website, All Star Puzzles.   I've spent many a non-production day on this site.  :)

Day 3 -

My book to share is Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. I first read this book when I was 11 years old. It's like a warm, comfy blanket and a hot chocolate by the fire. It's seen me through many a dark day and I'll be reading it again soon I think.

It's raining! Very dark and gloomy when I woke up this morning. It's been raining for a couple of days. Boy do we need it! We had a record setting (for September) 20 days without rain. Don't get me wrong, the weather has been gorgeous and I've loved every minute, but the vegetation is very pleased to be wet again. :)

We spent the weekend at my SIL's family cottage. Wow! Beautiful farm house right on the lake in the Muskokas. It's been in the family since it was built 100 years ago. The property is now worth millions due to the popularity of the region for cottagers.

This no internet at home situation is starting to wear. I do receive emails and such on my Blackberry but cannot seem to login to livejournal. Not sure why. I suppose I could trek over to my mom's a couple of times but that always ends up taking so much time. The boys want to stay and play as long as possible and my mom wants to chat the day away. I'm far enough behind in housework as it is. ;p

All this to say... My meme will continue today, and could you spare a click or two for the wee dragons?

I know I haven't been commenting or posting much lately.

This would be why... )
It's my annual carpal tunnel syndrome/epicondylitis/bursitis flare up!    The ibuprophen/ice/brace combo is not cutting it this time around, and my chiropractor had already lent out the tens machine.  It may be time to seriously consider the carpal tunnel surgery.   I have a fear of my wrists being cut so you can imagine where I sit on that idea!    *shudder*

Missing you all!

First seen on [info]lavvyan 's journal.

John C. Wright is an author who will be receiving no support or money from me.    The amount of hatred and bigotry in that post is staggering.  (He equates homosexuality with bestiality!  WTF!!)   I started reading (and I've read every, single comment)  with dread, but ended on a feeling of hope.    I wish I could speak on this topic as eloquently as so many of these people did.   The supportive  comments for Mr. Wright last for approx. 2/3 of the first page and from then on there are some really excellent responses.

Here's a snippet from one of [info]rosefox 's comments.

What I find problematic about your theories on homosexuality (which I assume extends to bisexuality as well) is that they completely focus on sex, to an almost pornographic degree. Sexual desire can be motivated by many things other than procreation: wanting comfort, wanting companionship, wanting to share a transcendent experience, wanting to cement a relationship (and the chemicals released in the brain during sex are uniquely suited to the latter, not "incidental"). In addition, same-sex romantic relationships can be entirely devoid of sex, as can different-sex romantic relationships. As a married man, are you really saying that when you have sex all you're focused on is making babies, and that your relationship with your wife is entirely predicated on that urge? And if that's not true for you, why should it be true of anyone else, straight or queer?

My sexual orientation does not define me.  Nor does my religion, job, political leanings, favourite movie,  or hair/skin colour .  No one of these things alone will tell you who I am, but combined they can give you insight into who I might be.  To think that, today, I can (and am apparently) still be hated because of one, or more of those characteristics is staggering.

Perhaps TOR will rethink their business agreement with this man.
